Barcelona travel

In a privileged position on the east coast of the Iberian peninsula and the the Mediterranean, Barcelona is the largest city in Spain after Madrid in both size and population.

It is also the capital of Catalonia, 1 of the Communities that make up Spain. There are two official languages spoken in Catalonia: Catalan, generally spoken in all of Catalonia, and Castillian. The city of Barcelona has a population of 1.480.000, but is over 4.200.000 if the nearby areas are also included.

The history of the city goes back to the founding of a Roman colony on its soil in the second century B.C. Modern Barcelona experienced spectacular growth and economic revival at the onset of industrialization during the second half of the 19th century. The 1888 and 1929 World's Fairs became both a symbol of the capacity for hard work and the outlook projected by the city.

Culture and the arts grew up in Barcelona and around Catalonia; the splendor achieved by the modernism by 1800. The capital of Catalonia is unequivocally a Mediterranean city, not only because of its location but also and above all because of its culture and Catalan behaviour influences.

The combination of business visitors and travellers visiting Barcelona makes hotels been busy for a lot of times during the year. Spring, autumn and early summer nice times to visit or live in the city. The weather is usually dry and pleasant, the number of tourists is not exaggerated and the city humming.

Summer from mid-June till late September is really good atmosphere in the city- many locals stay in the city to enjoy its cultural live and events. September and October are the best periodes of the year to live in Barcelona; the city recovers its normal behaviour, the heat eases and tourist is not too much, but the weather can be dry. For less dry periodes, hang about in some Octobers. Winter isn't especially distressing, but you will need accommodation in Barcelona with heating.
